About Jose Vasquez
THE PRACTICE ROOM SITE INSTRUCTOR
Jose Vasquez has over 12 years of experience as a classical guitarist. He initiated his guitar studies at Pasadena City College (PCC), in Pasadena, CA and East Los Angeles College (ELAC), in Monterey Park, CA. While at PCC Jose studied under guitar professor Stephen Jones and while at ELAC he studied under Dr. Ken Nagatani. During his time at PCC he won the First Place in the Milton and Harriet Mohs Performance Scholarship Competition for Strings (2006), the Paul H. Kilian Scholarship for Musicianship and Generosity (2006), the Guitar Ensemble Award for Outstanding Contribution (2007), the Pasadena Woman’s Club Music Award for Excellence in Music Studies (2007) and the American Guitar Society, Inc. Scholarship Award for the 2009-2010 academic year. Jose was accepted to the music department at California State University Los Angeles, CA in 2012 and in 2016 he received his Bachelor’s of Arts in Music. Jose is currently a guitar instructor at the East Los Angeles Community Service Music Department and Avenue 50 Art Studio. One distinguishing aspect of Jose’s career is his active involvement in giving music instruction to his community. He has donated many hours of guitar instruction at various community centers and programs among which include: The Scholarship Audition Performance Preparatory Academy in Altadena, CA; Centro de Comunicacion Comunitaria in Los Angeles, CA; Saturday Conservatory of Music in Pasadena, CA; Corazon del Pueblo in East Los Angeles and most recently at East Side Café Community Center in El Sereno, CA.
